Cindy Mori is an artist and teacher currently living in Santa Cruz, California. "Painting has become my way of understanding the world." She has a creative spark within her and her work is inspired by the ever-changing landscapes around us and within us. The quiet moments and the unexpected turns, the beauty that emerges through joy, loss, and healing.
I hope my paintings offer more than something beautiful to look at. I want them to create a sense of presence — a place where viewers can pause, reflect, and find their own connection within the work.

Abstract
My abstract art is an exploration of landscapes that we carry within us. Through expressive layers, luminous color, and intuitive mark making, my work reflects moments of loss, healing, wonder and renewal. Each painting creates a space to pause, breathe, and discover your own meaning.

Angels
Painting angels requires an inner quiet, a connection and then once I feel this, the work will develop spontaneously. I almost lose myself as I paint. It is deeply meditative. Each work of art becomes both deeply personal and I think universally human.

Florals
Florals are inspired from the flowers in my garden, a bouquet from a loved one, and perhaps something seen in nature. A bouquet can be painted many times and in many ways. I use a multi-layered approach with acrylics, oil pastels, soft pastels and pencil.

Intuitive Art
Intuitive painting is one of my favorite ways to paint. There is a beginning with perhaps an intention... for example, "Peace" and then I simply begin the painting with mark making, various brushstrokes, stamps, finger paint etc. until the painting shows me something to develop.

Whimsy
Fun and play is apparent in my art. Joy and happiness and a sense of wonder is a part of my soul. The horse may be blue with a mountain on its belly. A pink whale in a sea of flowers. An elephant rollerskating with 5 legs on a purple road. Nothing makes sense and everything makes sense.

Landscapes
Currently I enjoy painting plein air, directly from life, on my home coast of Santa Cruz, Carmel, and Big Sur. My travels also inspire these paintings as well, recently New Zealand and Hawaii.
